NEW FOREST MIDDLE DISTANCE TRI 21 September 2008

 

The morning is upon us, the great Zoom Tri challenge is about to commence. The boys get in a last minute group hug as the weather is a bit on the chilly side - brrrrr! The teams were sorted oldies vs the youngies, the drinks at the Xmas party the star prize. Obviously only soft drinks for the youngies.

 

Most of the team waiting for the ambulance to turn up, before they could allow Mike Mccarthy into the water, they were unsure whether he would make it to the finish :-)

 

And they're off! Mike, Freddie and Andy in this wave, the others went before. First out Lawrence (from the first wave) followed by Freddie, Andy, Mike 'I came out of the swim before you' Mccarthy (Not this time), split by 1 minute apiece, followed by the girls.

Onto the bikes then. Andy gets the nod on Freddie's lead and sets off in hot pursuit. At each support point Andy got the latest on Freddie's lead (Freddie anxiously looking over his shoulder for the orange shirt - should have had wing mirrors). Freddie in first, closely followed by Andy who was arriving as Freddie left for the run, then Lawrence sneaked in and out almost un-noticed followed by Mike and the girls (Rhona and Jacks)

Freddie out first, and Andy's hot on his tail. Leaving to great cheers from other Zoomers, and more updates on times.

Now for the hard stuff - 13.1 mile run, up hill and down dale. Andy feels his race with Freddie is at risk, and thinking about how much the bar bill is going to cost. But all is not lost, at mile 7 he gets a glimpse of the old Zoom Tri suit as Freddie reaches the aid station, and felt rejuvenated, and could see the British flag being hoisted to the top of the pole. As he strolls up behind Freddie, he puts in an extra spurt and takes him and puts enough distance between them to hold out until the finish.

Zoomers race NF Marathon and half marathon

Well done to Pat Robbins and Nigel Beacham who both raced the marathon. Pat finished in a superb 3:02:45 in 15th place and Nigel with a very respectable 3:33:54.

Matt Vail posted a very good time of 1:26:03 and Claire Busst ran well to finish in 1:46:30

Lets have a good turn out at the Poole Runners Winter 5k on the 17th October and the AECC 10k on November 2nd.

Quadrathon anyone?

If any Zoomers fancy trying their hands (legs and arms) at Quadrathlon (swim, bike, kayak, run), I am planning to go down to Bude for the Awesome Foursome on 4th October and would be happy to provide or share transport. I could also loan a kayak if required.

Southwater Relay 2008 Results

Well done to all members of team Zoom that raced this morning. The Mens team of Lawrence, Steve B and Andy took 2nd in the Senior Male event with Rhona Copp, JJ and Jacks Howe taking 3rd in the Senior ladies Well done!
