Bike Turbo and Circuit sessions at the Chiropractic College

Hi Guy's

Good news, Jenny and Ed have arranged for us to be able to book the gym at the Chiropractic College in Parkwood Road between Boscombe and Southbourne. Our first session will be held tomorrow evening. We have the hall booked from 6pm to 8pm. I am going to suggest that we start the session at 6.30pm. If people want to get there for 6pm and set their bikes up on their turbos and get some early spinning in thats fine. Tomorrow we will do an hours spin followed by 20 minutes of core workout...mmm nice :-)

So you will need to bring a 'clean' bike(no mud in the gym please) your turbo trainer, a drink for hydration, a towel as you will sweat (I promise you!) and your heart rate monitor if you have one. The gym is well equipped and we have everything else we need. Please park out on the road not in the College car park as the Clinic will be in full use with lots of patients coming and going and I want to make sure we are good guests. We have to pay for the hall so the fee per session will be £2.00. I will be designing and coaching the sessions so all the work will be tri specific. As the gym has limited space (15-18 with the circuit) this is only open to club members.

This will mean that we will no longer be meeting on the overcliff for Wednesday night rides until the clocks change back to BST.

Look forward to seeing you at the first session tomorrow

Rob Griffiths :-)

New Fun Events for the Winter

Many of you will know that one of our Members Philip Nye is a keen and successful quadrathlete. This season he raced all over the UK at some very interesting events winning his age group in the UK race series.

For those of you that not familiar with the sport it includes kyaking as well as swim, bike run. He has sent me some winter races that are taking place and is planning to do some of these races. They sound like fun, muddy off road type events, some include kyaking and some dont. So if you looking for something slightly different and you like getting muddy :-) its worth trying some out. I have attached Philip's e-mail address and the entry forms for the events.

A Night of Unbelievable Victory!

I thought the England Rugby teams result was incredible and probably the most unexpected of victories and then I logged on to the internet to get the results of the Ironman World Champs in Hawaii.

British Girl Chrissie Wellington rank outsider came through the whole field to take a first ever British victory and with it set the second fastest  run split ever on the famous Kona course 2.59. She took the lead at about 100 miles on the bike and never looked back, she finished with an amazing 6+ minutes over the world class field. Leanda Cave held on for a very creditable 8th place.

The mens event was won by Chris McCormack in 8.15 after a blistering 2.42 marathon split. Read more on tri24/7.com or ironmanlive.com

Our very own Simon Mortimer put in a great performance and ran his way to a 11.30 finish completing his marathon in just over 3.30. After finishing his swim in around 1.30 Simon then procedded to move up over 500 places on the bike and run, Well done Simon we are proud of you, great finish!

Zoomers storm the Hoburne 5 (with cake)

On a pleasant October morning 7 Zoomers rose to face their first post season test. Inspired by Andy Downton's call to arms (see previous post) the brave athletes gathered at the Hoburne holiday park in Highciffe. This idyllic holiday venue, a favourite amongst older people, was about to be ravaged by the zoomers' blend of speed, determination and ...cake. Rob 'the godfather' Griffiths was first to arrive, bringing armour (new club vests bargain price of £12.50) and motivational battle anthems (eric prydz, Call on Me). Jen and Steve were next to venture from their cars, with Dan closely behind. Steve noticed Dan was distant and reserved, clearly psyching himself for the race with thoughts of raw meat and ancient running rituals. Tim had stirred early  as his 'cake sense' was tingling. He and JJ were next to arrive.
Now to the race. A gently undulating 5 mile suburban course provided little in the way of visual delight but was well marshalled and the Zoomers were grateful for this, Steve in particular. Steve and Dan were aiming for 30 minutes and both were happy with their times, 30.15 and 30.28 respectively. Rob had an excellent race and was the next Zoomer home, followed by Tim who was motivated by the thought of cake and the hairgel he would soon be able to apply. Jen put in a typically strong performance to finish 3rd Lady, with JJ 4th in hot persuit. Well Done to both of you! Pete, on his first outing for the yellows, should be proud of his run, finishing with Jen and JJ. We look forward to seeing him at club sessions on a Tuesday and Thursday night.
The highlight of the day came as Jen peeled the silver foil from the huge chocolate cake which she had baked for the hungry Zoomers! The cake was atleast 12cm high and 30cm in diameter with 2 types of chocolate buttons and a sublime filling. Tim was shocked to discover that Ed had claimed a piece for himself, and it was up to Rob to calm him down.
Overall then, a thoroughly enjoyable morning's run and and even more enjoyable coffee and cake, just to confirm that nutrition really is the fourth discipline!

Have a good night guys
