Post Southwater Pub grub and quiz

It has been suggested that we meet up on Sunday evening for some pub grub and quiz night at the Night Jar over in Canford Clifts. Suggest we meet around 7/7.30pm for the feeding frenzy, the quiz starts at 8.45pm and costs £1 per person.

Ashley has suggested we add a little spice to the evening and create a few teams from the groups racing and anyone else that wants to come. I tried to explain that it would give anyone who was fortunate enough to be in my team a hugely unfair advantage, but he did not seem to mind! So it would seem that sound that you hear is the gauntlet of competition hitting the ground....(Slap!) Suggest we split into 3 teams for the quiz, with team Captains Ashley, yours truely and Tim F, small side bets will be welcomed, clearly no  earwigging or pleading for answers will be tolreated. Any use of mobile technology will be deemed as cheating and is strictly forbidden of course!!

Bring it on :-)

The Disco and dancing for swivel hips McCarthy goes on until 1pm. There is also special rates on room bookings if any wants to stay overnight and the hospital can't accommodate! Wesuit repair service

Last week I put my thumb through my new orca wetsuit. I found thanks to Sarah Barratt a guy called Dennis Mears. He charged me a fiver for the repair and did an excellent job.

If you should be unlucky enough to do the same you can contact him on 01425 620571 and his premises(Predator Drysuits/ Wetsuits) are based behind the Danestream Farmshop on the Sway Road nr Tiptoe. I'm sure he could also modify a tri suit aswell to improve fit/ turn the zip round etc...

Zoom Tri - Athlete Development Programme

Are you really committed to improve?

To support those athletes that are keen to develop their individual triathlon performances we will be developing a series of athlete development days throughout this Autumn and Winter. These are coaching, testing and assessement days that will take place once per month commencing in October and will run through to the start of the season in May.

Regardless of your age, time in the sport, current standard, or the distance you want to race, these days will be open to anyone who is serious about improving their triathlon performance. The only criteria you will need is to be motivated and prepared to commit to 1 sunday per month from October to May. In these sessions we will be providing contiuous coaching and development on all three elements and we will be including sessions on strength and conditioning, diet and equipment. There will be guest coaches invited in to run specific sessions or provide advice on specialist topics. I am currently in discussions with venues for the facilities we require. The number of places available will only be limited by facility size, availability and the number of qualified coaches. It is my intention to gather a squad together of at least 12 athletes that will be able to help and support each other. A small but reasonable fee will be charged to cover costs and out of pocket expenses, this it is hoped will be discounted by a development squad sponsor.

The first day will be an assessement and testing session on 28th October, future dates, times, costs and venues will be posted up over the next couple of weeks. If you are interested in taking part please e-mail me and I will send you an athlete profile questionnaire to fill out. rob@zoomgb.com

Zoomers post great times at Ironman UK

Four Zoomers took on the challenge of Ironman UK last weekend, Andy Downton and Paolo De Luca racing their second ironman event this year whilst Mike McCarthy and Rob Wickham both were atempting to loose thier Ironman cherry!

All four athletes posted great times and performances in what were very mixed racing conditions. As expected Andy was first home in 11.20 a very solid performance which has consolidated his move to Ironman distance after only 2 years in the sport. Paolo was next home in 12.30, an improved time on last year and again consolidating fine performances in both Ironman Lazarote and the World Long Course Champs. Our two Ironman virgins both did themselves and the club proud, showing little signs of the arduous nature of the event with impressive runs off the bike. Mike was well in with 12.53 and Rob in 13.00

Well done and a big thank you from them to all the Zoomers on the course cheering and encouraging them home.

As we are members of both the Hampshire and Dorset Road Running Leagues this gives us plenty of opportunity to run and represent the club. Watch this Blog for news of the races we will be targetting as a club. Well done Tim on doing the tough job of pulling together a club kit order!
